Most of you have probably heard that engaging in new activities in older age helps keep the brain functioning optimally. That’s because the stimulation of new ideas and activities promotes neural growth and the maintenance of active circuits. The same is true throughout life, however, not just in older age. To the extent that we allow different ideas and habits to enter into our lives and embrace them, we challenge our minds to grow more flexible and resilient — expanding our capacity for life experience and maturing in the process.
