Dr. Katie is a compassionate and experienced therapist who seeks to help her clients develop self-awareness and make meaningful life changes. She received her doctorate in psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology (APA Accredited). Katie draws on her extensive training in evidence-based behavioral therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Katie completed her clinical internship at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, where she gained experience coordinating with physicians to integrate treatment plans and care.
Katie has a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the Florida Institute of Technology. After completing her formal schooling, she worked in the Departments of Psychiatry, Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center with an emphasis in Primary Care Family Psychology and Geriatrics. She gained experience helping family members become more involved in their loved one’s medical treatment. Katie is a proponent of the biopsychosocial model. She emphasizes the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and relationship health, which often includes communication and collaboration with her client’s various healthcare providers to thoroughly and effectively address all of her client’s needs.
Katie brings a wealth of experience to our team. She has conducted comprehensive psychological assessments to determine AD/HD and other diagnoses, worked with clients struggling with substance use disorders, and treated clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has led therapy groups in a variety of settings and is accustomed to collaborating with medical providers. As an educator, she has taught teams of physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers about psychological health. Her research work has included the interface between CBT and technological applications, personality scales and assessments, and the use of technology to overcome traditional barriers to care for patients in behavioral health.
Katie utilizes CBT, mindfulness-based approaches, and developing an understanding of the mind-body connection to treat clients with a variety of mental health needs including mood disorders, sleep, chronic pain, and trauma. While Katie is a highly educated therapist, she brings a warm and down to earth presence to her work with clients. Therapy can often feel tedious and difficult, therefore it is just as important to bring light-heartedness and humor into each session to alleviate the struggles and pressures of daily life. Recognizing that each client is the expert on themselves, Katie’s primary goal as a therapist is to work collaboratively with each client to help them reach their personal goals and make meaningful changes in their lives.
